The new line truck arrives.
Who dat in the crew cab? Could it be
the one and only Miss Van Ness?
Blo and our buddy Jim Grimm.
Hey Blo, did you get a banjo with
that hat?
Setting a pole on Morrison Road.
That's Blo in the blue t-shirt.
Brent and Gal autograph Blo's
tomatoes. What pranksters! Now get back
to work before Danny shows up!
Blo and a blo-n up 75 KVA. He does it
all, from building decks to replacing
transformers. And he knows to hang
drywall horizontally, unlike some
wanna-be clowns!
Put-in-Bay park and marina.
Anybody ever get drunk here? Anybody
ever NOT??
Blo and his Uncle Danny with their
buddy on July 17, 1987, the last day
at OPCO. Weren't we skinny?
If you need help moving, this is the
crew to have. That's Blo in the yellow
T-shirt.
The Moose Club, where Blo bought
many a round. It was near this bar where
Blo's good buddy said "Hey Blo, I think
I see one leaving Woodville".
But the most amazing thing to me is
I ...get paid...for doing...thiiiiiiiiiiiis!
(It's all Blo could do. At the time he
wasn't qualified over 250 volts)
Blo (on the left) and Brent in the late 80s.
Now these guys go all over the USA
restoring power. If Chuck Norris were
a linesman he would be like Brent.
Buzz, Blo, and Johnny.
AKA Night Fighters R Us.
Blo has the red cap on.
Brent, Blo, and Rangy fix a street
light. 3 guys to fix a light...no wonder
my electric bill is so high!
Big Muskie was the biggest dragline in
the world at one time. Owned by a
company that could not afford to rent
scaffolding for the crew when needed.
Having a suds at the Depot. Blo, did
you really get that shirt at Myrtle
Beach? Blo has the cap on.
Is Blo waving to someone or ordering
another round? What's $10 to a lineman?
Blo and Mike have a suds. That's the
driveway where Tung's diesel leaked
oil, but Mike got a cooler for his
hazmat efforts afterwards.
Blo and buddy have a cold beer in Mike's
garage on Celek Drive. What sprayed you
two, anyway?
This is the spot where Blo nailed Puss
under the floor during a bath remodel.
Rumor has it alcohol may have been
involved. Puss survived, but was scared.
Don, Buzzy, and Blo with the new line
truck. Don had to stress "how good
these kids have it now days". Johnny
is behind the wheel.
The crew after choking down breakfast
at Whitey's in 1987- but not on company
time. This is THE place to go with a
hangover, the grub hits the spot. That's
Mark in the white apron.
Uncle Donny and Blo have a conversation
over beer during a BBQ on State Street
in the mid-80s.
Don is probably advising Blo, a grunt
the time, to get a real job. It's good
Blo didn't listen, otherwise he wouldn't
have diamonds big as horse turds today.
Jim "Heart Attack My Ass" Grimm's
retirement party in July of 1987.
That was quite the crew back then.
Rangy and Blo lay block at their buddy's
house. Many an empty beer can ended up
inside those block eventually. That's
Leweegee on the left, a German mason.
Blo came out to show his buddy how to
set chimney block, and ended up building
the whole thing! Blo had the easy part.
His buddy mixed the morter, carefully
filtering out the cat turds and stones.
"Hey Blo, just one more? I'll buy you a
beer!" See the red Jeep in the driveway?
Blo had recently bought that, no thanks to
his good buddy who said "Why stop? You're
not going to buy it anyway". Blo is too nice.
That's the crew after the block were
set. Leweegee, Blo, Zyski, and Tom
Leeth. Zyski didn't actually help, he
was just nosing around.
These newfangled bucket trucks will
make a bum out of you!
Remember when Art Larson, Ted Stang,
Mamie Tate, Jim Overmeyer, and
Carl "Aligators" Bucklad worked here?
Low inventory keeps costs down! Now we
can afford to rent some scaffolding.
Remember when the trucks were tan
and nobody backed in?
Here's the place where Blo got his start.
Was it behind door #1 or door #2?
An overhead 750 KVA bank. Yikes!
Next time try a padmount.
Blo's Harley Davidson. This will probably
be the most downloaded picture off of
this site. I'll bet Blo looks good on it!
Hey Blo, do you know how to use that
welder? (inside joke for old-timers)
Here's Blo in his "other" garage, 2007.
Yep, you read that right, Blo has 2 garages
for all the toys. Like Uncle Don used
to say "Some guys know how to live".
Somebody used an over-center as a temp
repair on this tower. I'm betting that it
is still that way today. Note date on
photo.
Buzzy and crew install a new xfmr and
underground service to Uncle Don's
house on Baker Road. There's another
guy who knew how to live. I still don't
believe the story about the lamp...

Crew cab in a 1970 International line
truck. Come to work with a hangover and
sleep it off here. Great place to hide on
inclement days, too. Note alley apple.
.jpg) |
This was the first big rig that Blo ever
drove. "Yes, one day you too can drive
the big rigs!" he used to say. Now
look at him. What a guy!
.jpg) |
Cindy Lou poses with the line truck the
day it was replaced with a new on in 1986.
This was the oldest in the company, and was
Uncle Don's pride.
.jpg) |
Brent empties out truck 400 for the
last time. T. Leeth stops by for a look.
That's Buzzy in the cab.
1979 called! Rangy was still a grunt, a cub.
Years later, at age 45, he would give up
retirement to be a breaker specialist for
AEP. Still too cheap to drink?
.jpg) |
A photo of a less serious side of Buzzy.
Ahhh...ahhhh...AAHHHHH!
You can see Buzzy's wrecked 1971
Chevy here. Sold it to me for $100.
The only known picture of Jughead, taken
around 1980. Rumor has it he is in Arizona
somewhere. True, Jughead left the jobsite
without Don one time, that was hilarious!
Buzz and Blo replace a pole on Baker Rd.
The work on this line has always been
the subject of controversy with the stone
backfill. Apparently there is continuing
disagreement as to whether someone "had
an eye" for the amount needed. Hey, at
least that stone made it to the jobsite!
George proudly displays the best truck the
cable company had. If there was ever a
company that drove equipment until the
wheels literally fell off, it was Fremont
Cable!
No tribute to Blo would be complete
without some kind of recognition to
Boomer. Here he graces the doorway of a
liquor store in Mexico, south of Arizona.
Boomer and his buddy have a beer in the
desert south of Ajo, Arizona, in the fall of
1985. 'Ol Pard was taking a break from
moving to his retirement home in Ajo.
This is how Don would look if you were
a bird on a transmission tower. As Gal
would say "That's one hunk of Unk!"
Don looks out the cab of the truck and
wonders what the hell that kid is doing
climbing that tower. Taking a picture!
Another picture of Jughead has surfaced!
Playing cards at the apartment on State
Street before Blo was hired (otherwise
you would see Blo sitting next to Danny).
The warehouse. You can still imagine
K F Hoover keeping things in order.
But gawd, the coffee was awful!
